Fulacht Fiadh
A short distance from the stone circle on the Bonane Heritage trail is the remains of a Fulacht Fiadh. These are the most common archaeological sites in Ireland, with well over 4,000 recorded sites. Fulacht Fiadh are thought to be cooking areas mostly dating to the bronze age. They had a central trough that held water.. Stones were heated and placed in the trough. You can clearly see the shape of a mound around the central cooking area, this mound was formed by charcoal-enriched soil and heat shattered stones. There is an excellent example of a hearth and trough close to Drombeg stone circle.
Situated: About 30 metres from the stone circle on the Bonane Heritage Trail.
